Our History
Pisanello’s Pizza started in Bowling Green, Ohio, in October of 1964. Jerry Liss, of Kent, Ohio, started the business with his remaining US Navy pay, after working for Ron Pisanello, in the early-1960s. It was the inspiration of Pisanello’s recipe that drove Jerry to start his own business. Jerry chose Bowling Green, because of the growing student population of BGSU, and soon discovered that his pizza was a hit. Within a year, his wife Sylvia DuBois joined him in Bowling Green, and together they ran the store for 50 years, to great success. Over the decades, there have been hundreds of employees who have all helped build Pisanello’s Pizza into a successful small business, with 11 franchises in Ohio and Michigan. Today, Miranda DuBois Liss runs the restaurant. Her primary goal is to keep the legacy of her parents alive, through delicious pizza, one pie at a time.
